Festival Season

It's starting to hit me that my dream of shooting Bonnaroo is actually about to come true..

I remember a few years ago being at my very own graduation party, yet wishing I was there. I remember dreaming about what it would be like to experience such a festival, let alone be paid to document it... it all seemed very unattainable..at the time I would tell anyone who would listen how "I'm going to shoot Bonnaroo one day," yet never feeling any truth behind it..and for it to fall into my lap? for me not to actively hunt this kind of journey out but for it to come to me, is pretty incredible..

I won't elaborate any further about how meaningful and special this opportunity truly is for me but I will say I feel extremely fortunate and I am thankful for everything that has come my way thus far.

I'm living my dreams.

Previous Festivals:
Ultra Music Festival
Escape 2 New York Festival
ID Festival

On June 6, 2012 I will set out to Tennessee on an RV full of random festi-goers to shoot this 4 day festival for Joonbug Productions. Lets hope I come back in one piece!

It's extremely gratifying to see your work published to any kind of website, let alone an up and coming website. In this case, that website is www.winesthatrock.com. The last time I worked with wines-that-rock was a couple months ago at the Brooklyn Bowl for the Radiators Farewell Tour: click here to view photos!

To my surprise, wines-that-rock came to me again in hopes of scoring some photos from the Phish winter run at MSG, NYC 2011-2012.
Here's what I have to offer:

Smells like TWEEN spirit -- CODY SIMPSON

...THE NEW JUSTIN BIEBER
You'd think I was photographing the Beatles by the size of the crowd or by the high pitched squawks of  the millions and millions of prepubescent tweens...but no, all the hype wasn't for the Beatles but for CODY SIMPSON! The best way I can describe this little chap is basically an Australian version of America's very own Justin Bieber! Needless to say, I was happy to be there and snuck in a photo pre-concert!

Escape to New York Festival Part Deux!

Atmosphere - Scenery - Art

Despite the festival being rained out on Sunday (buzzkill), the overall atmosphere and vibe was a good one! Both venders and festi- goers seemed to be enjoying themselves, projecting positive energy all around! Overall there was a very patriotic vibe, why? I have absolutely no idea, but it was pleasantly refreshing!

Scenery & Art

What's wonderful about this festival is the ever evolving scenery!
Something I like to refer to as the "day and night factor." During the day, these artworks appear to be somewhat aesthetically appealing and odd... but at night, each piece becomes illuminated, brining new meaning and life to each and every piece.

Escape To New York Festival 2011

What was described to be a mix between Coachella and Burning Man, Escape To New York, was certainly not your average run of the mill music festival. This festival focused not only on music but the arts and  some scrumptious cuisine as well!

This festival captivated my attention right from the get-go due to the fact that it emulated a fantastical land similar to that of Alice In Wonderland. Normally, I enjoy people watching on Phish Tour or at your local Walmart Supercenter but this festival trumped both scenes! People were animated with costumes just as colorful as their imaginations!

Everything stated within Escape To New York's manifesto was pretty accurate.
For example, Exhibit A is a photo used on the festivals website to give a preview as to what's to be expected. Exhibit B is what I came to find.

I've attended many festivals in my day, however, none hold a flame to the art instillations showcased at the Escape To New York Festival. Each piece was  innovative, varying in medium, purpose, and sense of scale.

While enjoying an overpriced nice cold beer, a fellow festi-goer approached me asking  if I had stumbled into the woods yet... I replied "no." It was at that time that this perfect stranger suggested I waltz on over and check out one particular piece, he referred to as "disturbing."

If this doesn't change your perception of good old Bambi, I don't know what will. I'm unsure what would possess one to construct such a _____________ (insert witty word here), but I do give this artist an A+. Why? Shock art. I am a firm believer in creating artworks which evoke emotion. Whether you are repulsed or titillated is irrelevant, the fact of the matter is, this piece impacted your mind in some way, causing you to have a reaction. She certainly got a rise out of many people, thus making this piece a success! Kudos!

***STAY TUNED!***

HeadCount Benefit 5/1/11

Often times, writers reach out to me requesting a photo or two to pair with their story.

About a month ago, a writer for HeadCount contacted me about using one of my photos from Ultra Music Festival for an article he was writing on the artist LEBO. www.headcount.org/interview-with-artist-david-lebo/

It was at that time that I figured why not contact music affiliated organizations such as HeadCount, offering my photographic services. The next thing I knew, I was signed up to shoot one of HeadCounts larger benefits  featuring  The Radiators for their farewell tour! The benefit took place at the Brooklyn Bowl, a personal favorite of mine. Side note: If you are looking for some organized fun, this is the place for you. The Brooklyn Bowl has the BEST fried chicken around, great live music and bowling, all wrapped into one!

The night was an absolute hit and I look forward to working with HeadCount again in the near future!
