Many people don't know this about me...but I started off as a painter. I have been enrolled in private art school (primarily focusing on painting), on top of regular school- all my life...Growing up, I had always been taught to paint within the lines...and as a result, most of my artworks were boring and mimicked the dated still-lives that lay before me.
At the time, I was extremely naive, and was almost resentful towards my teachers...Why was I being forced to paint bowls of fruit? Better yet, how many bowls of fruit would I have to paint until I could move onto something more aesthetically appealing? Looking back, I have grown to appreciate and understand why I was asked to do these renderings. Had I not been professionally trained and educated, who knows where I would be today. You must crawl before you can walk and I now see that creating those renderings over and over again were fundamental in my artistic growth. Here is where I am today: |
